Counselling for parents
The times we live in bring greater challenges for parents, often alongside less support from family and community as well as availability of services. If you add in children or young people that are experiencing additional difficulties, this can be very impactful on the whole family.
I am enthusiastic about supporting parents through therapy as I find that often this has a positive effect on the whole family. All families are different but if parents can have someone to talk with, be emotional with and work through what is going on for them, they are most often much more able to be more present and supportive of their children.
No one is a perfect parent – and if such a thing existed it may well be quite harmful to children’s development. D. W. Winnicott, a paediatrician is often remembered for defining the term ‘good enough parent’. We don’t need to get it right all the time. I will not judge, just seek to be alongside you helping you to untangle and think more clearly about your parenting journey.
